Dr Jess Venner is a Roman historian, Pompeii expert, and author whose writing blends academic insight with cinematic storytelling. Her work explores the lives of real people in the ancient world, bringing lost voices back into focus through vivid narrative, archaeological evidence, and rigorous research.

Jess’s debut book, THE LOST VOICES OF POMPEII (HarperCollins & Diamond in UK, Commonwealth, N. America & Japan), reimagines the final 24 hours in Pompeii from the perspective of those who lived it, combining human stories with forensic detail and cultural depth. 

Alongside her book, Jess writes across formats: academic articles, museum features, documentary scripts, and educational content for public audiences. Her ability to shift seamlessly between scholarship and popular writing has earned her a growing readership and industry attention, as well as accolades from institutions like the Royal Historical Society.
